Collaborative social engagement – Supporting the Rainbow Nation!

Especially during the pandemic, we were very involved in relief projects and support for soup kitchens, etc.

Click here for more details about our involvement during the Covid-19 lockdown phase in and around Cape Town.

Supporting specific projects in collaboration with our customers, opening doors and creating encounters – this is exactly our Inspiration! Our wish is to bring you closer to the “other side of South Africa” in order to better understand and learn about the colourful mix of the Xhosa, Zulu, and Ndebele cultures, including their rituals and everyday challenges.

Our vision and motivation with your visit to South Africa is to bring about a small smile to disadvantaged families, especially children. We have for example been providing hands-on support to the “Naked Baby Project” via LIONS CLUB; here we provide hundreds of baby mattresses for new mothers every year in township maternity clinics. If you want to help us, we always look forward to donations of used baby clothes or stuffed animal toys from Germany and abroad.

Another important project is Jonga Trust; here our colleague Anke Rochau is personally & regularly involved. This is a visual aid project, where thousands of children in the slums around Cape Town and the Western Cape are selected for eye tests and fitted with spectacles. For example, children with either minus 6 or minus 11 dioptre, receive a new chance at life in order to again participate in regular school life. Spectacles are also handed out to elderly patients. We thank our guests for the regular support, including the company FIELMANN in Hamburg, in providing more than 20,000 custom made children’s spectacles, providing for much needed check-up.

Furthermore we also recently got involved in Mozambique, where we support a primary school near Travessia Beach Lodge (Inhambane Province) by committing in the long term pay to a newly appointed teacher’s salary. In one of the poorest countries in the world we provide the kids with an opportunity for a better start in life!

With tour groups or incentive customers we often visit specific projects in the townships. Recently a large donation sum was handed over by the company BUDERUS to urgently install much needed solar thermal collectors at the community project Ithemba Labantu on the outskirts of Cape Town.

We are happy to arrange individual township tours with the multi-award winning provider UTHANDO, where handpicked community projects are visited and background information about the living conditions in the neighbourhoods are explained to clients. If you are interested, we can also combine this with a visit to the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg or a visit to Robben Island in your travels to provide you with a better insight into the recent Apartheid history of South Africa.
