Pure Africa, wild and untamed
Zambia is considered by Africa experts to be one of the last true wildernesses on the continent – a country that touches visitors with its unspoiled nature, its vastness, and its untouched landscapes. Those who have been here once usually return.
Zambia's highlands, at around 1,000 meters above sea level, are characterised by endless savannas, open woodlands, and expansive bushland. The country's lifeblood is the mighty Zambezi River , which carves its way through the wilderness until it plunges spectacularly into the depths at the famous Victoria Falls , spanning 1.7 kilometers. The fine spray that envelops the falls has captivated visitors from all over the world since the time of David Livingstone. A helicopter flight over the falls , a canoe trip on the Zambezi , or a sundowner cruise are experiences that will never be forgotten.
Zambia's national parks are among the most impressive in Africa: The Lower Zambezi National Park, situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, covers over 400,000 hectares and offers not only classic game drives but also numerous water-based activities for observing the river's wildlife. South Luangwa National Park, famous for its many leopards, and the expansive Kafue National Park offer safari experiences that could hardly be more intense or pristine. Here you'll encounter elephants, big cats, crocodiles, hippos, zebras, giraffes, hyenas, and numerous antelope species in their natural habitat – often in complete isolation.
Zambia is home to professional walking safaris, perfect for those who want to learn more about the interplay of nature and wildlife, as well as the art of tracking. Whether you prefer rustic tented camps, mobile walking or canoe safaris, or luxurious lodges in prime locations, Zambia offers the perfect safari experience for every taste. What impresses many travelers most, however, is the rangers' incredible knowledge and the extraordinary warmth of the local people – there's hardly a more authentic way to experience Africa.
Victoria Falls, located on the border with Zimbabwe, is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. The sight of the cascading water and the rainbow mist is simply breathtaking.
Zambia is famous for its walking safaris and less frequented national parks like South Luangwa or Kafue. Here you can experience wildlife up close and in complete peace and quiet, often without other tourists for miles around.
Besides safaris, Zambia offers many adventure activities: white water rafting on the Zambezi River, canoe safaris or fishing on the Zambezi, or even ziplining over Victoria Falls – perfect for active travelers who want to experience nature up close.
