Newly discovered & personally tested: Lodges with character

 In Current, Hotels and Lodges

Our colleague Anke has been out exploring with fresh eyes in recent weeks – venturing along new trails in northern South Africa, and the Tuli Block on the Botswana border. What she found is truly exciting: stunning new lodges and remarkable wildlife regions, perfectly suited for safari connoisseurs and seasoned Africa travelers – and wonderfully malaria-free. Along the way, she also discovered inspiring hotel gems in the Winelands.

Anke’s Safari Tip: The Tuli Block

In the little-known, malaria-free Tuli Block, where South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe meet, Anke was especially impressed by two lodges:

Koro River Camp – Safari with vision in wild terrain
  • Located directly on the Limpopo River
  • Only 7 modern tents with plenty of privacy
  • Leopard and hyena sightings in pristine wilderness
  • Striking landscapes dotted with ancient baobabs (800–1000 years old)
  • Safaris on foot, by vehicle, or even by e-bike
  • Optional: join researchers in the field – fascinating insights into conservation & ecosystems

⇒ Our verdict: A true insider’s tip for safari connoisseurs and anyone seeking a deeper connection with nature.

Tuli Safari Lodge – A hidden gem in southern Botswana

Another safari highlight on Anke’s trip was the charming Tuli Safari Lodge, set in the breathtaking Mashatu Game Reserve – a private wilderness of 42,000 hectares.

Why it’s worth a visit:
  • Thrilling wildlife encounters: lions, leopards, elephants – and even a puff adder
  • 8 spacious tented suites with comfort & privacy
  • Excellent rangers, many with over 20 years of local experience
  • A sundowner spot that’s hard to beat
  • Malaria-free region – ideal also for families and more cautious travelers

Anke loved the combination of authentic safari atmosphere, outstanding guiding, and the sense of discovering your own wilderness far from the usual routes.
